Accounting Supervisor Needed with Local, Top-Rated University (HYBRID SCHEDULE) Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting in the Office of Sponsored Projects Financial Administration, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of individuals within the financial and reporting services group for all sponsored projects at the University. The ideal candidate will manage all aspects of work activities to ensure the highest quality of customer service, financial reporting, award setup, award closeouts, and compliance with accounting principles, sponsor requirements, state and federal guidelines as well as University policies and procedures. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and determines staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines, and labor agreement interpretations for exempt and non-exempt staff in one or more functional departments of the University.
  • Manages the administrative support needs for exempt and nonexempt staff and provides recommendations, improvements, solutions, and assistance as needed.
  • Manages and monitors technology needs, and conducts inventory, and system requirements for the assigned departments.
  • Develops and prepares budgets, financial forecasts, financial analyses, and actual vs. budgeted performance reports for the departments.
  • Manages the use of facilities in one or more departments including office space, workstations, equipment, and office supplies.
  • Manages administrative support for activities of one or more departments to ensure the timely completion of projects.
  • Manages and coordinates training sessions for assigned departments when new policies or practices are adopted.
  • Ensures compliance with university and federal regulations as they apply to the assigned departments.
  • Identifies, plans, and develops administrative policies for the assigned departments.
  • Assists in reviewing and implementing University and departmental policies as they pertain to the administrative functions of the assigned department.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations regarding staff development and staffing levels.
  • Monitors, develops, plans, and executes systematic research on user requirements through such mechanisms as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and competitive analysis.
  • Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, organizational, time management, and proactive problem-solving skills.
    • Previous experience in research administration management, accounting theory, practices, and financial reporting.
    • Ability to read, interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
    • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with sponsoring and regulatory agencies, as well as faculty, administrators, and other members of the University.
    • Strong written & verbal communication skills, as well as excellent presentation skills and confidence with public speaking.
    • Proactive with a strong sense of urgency to deadlines; curious and resourceful. Proven ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequently changing priorities.
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of staff, faculty, and administration.
    • Prior supervisory experience within a large complex organization/university environment; grant-related experience in a university or non-profit environment.
    • Knowledge of 2 CFR Part 200 and other federal regulations and guidelines, prior experience with grant and contract accounting; administrative/business experience in a university department or academic setting; CPA. CB2
