Respect and Responsibility. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general
direction of the Bell Summer Site Manager, the Bell Teacher’s
Assistant works for the YMCA of Greater Hartford and is responsible
for the daily lesson delivery at the Y BELL XL programs. Y Bell XL
is a summer learning program designed to address summer learning
loss for low-income children living in urban communities and
thereby enhance overall youth development, academic performance,
and graduation rates. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manage student behavior
Establish a safe and accepting classroom environment conductive to
learning. Oversee program dismissal. All duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified Candidate must be at least 16 years old.
Previous experience working with children. Works effectively with
children, families and other staff. Able to be certified in
Connecticut Child Care, Adult & Child CPR and attain certification
within 90 days of employment. Possess good oral communication,
written communication, and public speaking skills. Positive
enrollment trends. Positive, appropriate interaction with the
children in the program and other staff. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to always supervise children by sight and sound. Ability to
move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e.
climbing, aggressive behavior). Ability to remain calm, objective
and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying
upset child, upset parent, or upset staff). Ability to be flexible
and willing to adjust to change. Ability to move around the room to
assist children and supervise children with daily activities,
social interaction, physical and emotional needs. Ability to lift
young children and objects (food baskets and supplies) up to 40
lbs. Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships. The
ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as being able to
talk and hear. The ability to move from program site to branch is
required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space,
buses, schools, pools, and program area.
