Direct Hire Schedule: - M-F 37.5 hours Overview: The Clinical
Research Support Laboratory (CRSL) is the primary non-CLIA
certified laboratory responsible for collecting, processing,
stabilizing, documenting, shipping, and tracking all research
biospecimens from patients participating in clinical trials.
Responsibilities:
- The Laboratory Supervisor position is primarily responsible for
the scheduling and usage of laboratory resources in the collection
of clinical research specimens. They will ensure compliance with
protocol processing and shipping requirements and oversee and
enforce adherence to institutional and safety regulations and
policies within their assigned laboratory.
- Direct supervision of Research and Operational Assistants.
Responsible for recruiting, hiring, career development, performance
evaluations, communication of deadlines and special circumstances,
disciplinary actions, and workload management. This position will
provide direct supervision for non-exempt employees. In partnership
with the Clinical Operations staff, assist in feasibility review
and operational planning of clinical research protocols to provide
feedback and recommendations related to resourcing, operational
needs, limitations, and capabilities.
- Participates in regular meetings with Clinical Operations
staff, meets with external study monitors (as needed). Oversees the
team and is responsible for successfully completing the daily work
schedule for assigned lab unit, ensuring quality, productivity, and
efficiency of team. Sets clear priorities, interprets protocol
instructions, and enforces standards, giving direction to staff to
ensure the best possible service.
- Organizes the workflow, proactively identifies and addresses
needs, manages multiple ongoing priorities. Investigates complaints
and collaborates with others, as necessary. Escalates to management
all important information necessary to ensure department success.
Evaluates work requests to determine if they are appropriate to the
unit or another area. Assists in long-range planning for work unit
needs.
- Interacts with external sources to coordinate work necessary to
fulfill projects, keep abreast of new products and technologies, or
arrange for subcontractors. Monitors and generates measurements of
activities. Assists in the development and implementation of
policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work
environment. Recommends adjustments to policies and procedures to
facilitate quality improvement initiatives in support of
organizational objectives and best practices.
- Manages the use of facilities and ensures contracted courier
services maintain applicable regulatory and safety documentation
and standards. Assist in the maintenance of equipment and supplies
for the unit. Schedules external couriers for delivery of
patient-specific protocol materials for drops off outside of
regularly scheduled courier hours. Maintains knowledge of the
regulatory environment governing the collection, storage, and
shipment of human samples. Sustains up-to-date best practices and
participates in local and international professional organizations,
as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures in
support of unit. -
- Assists in long-range planning for work unit needs. -
- Participates in unit budget planning. -
- Supervises a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees while
supervising daily activities -of support staff. -Completes
evaluations of direct report employees. -
- Interacts with personnel to define work assignments and
requirements, communicate progress of work, and plan and coordinate
projects. -
- Interacts with external sources to coordinate work necessary to
fulfill projects, keep abreast of new products and technologies, or
arrange for subcontractors. - Requirements:
- Minimum requirement of Bachelor???s Degree in related field and
three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
- High-level of understanding of research and lab environments.
Advanced technical expertise in complex specimen processing
procedures and familiarity with BSL-2 laboratory standards.
- Project management skills and demonstrated ability managing
personnel effectively including unionized positions. Benefits Our
