Montessori School, launched in August 2014, is a public Montessori
school that is actively engaged in Anti-Bias Anti-Racist (ABAR)
work in the school and surrounding community. We are seeking a Dean
of Social Emotional Learning committed to Montessori education as a
vehicle for social justice. We will serve 260 children preK-6th
grade in the 2020-2021 academic year and will grow to more than 370
students between the ages of 3 and 13 over the next ten years. New
Haven, Connecticut is a thriving arts, cultural, and education hub,
located in the center of a growing community of public Montessori
schools. About the Position: This is a 10 month, full-time
position, with additional planning responsibility during the
summer. As part of the leadership team, Dean of SEL will be
responsible for planning social emotional learning. This person
reports to the Principal and coordinates with Guides, Social
Worker, SPED and Montessori Coach and supervises the SEL
Coordinator. Required Qualifications: Applicant must have a BA, a
Masters in Social Work, Education, Special Education or a related
field or lived experience with children and Social Emotional
Learning, and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a
school or early childhood program. Preferred Qualifications: The
ideal applicant is deeply committed to building an Anti-Bias
Anti-Racist institution that creates equitable outcomes for
children. Our team looks for candidates who are well-organized,
positive, proactive, and motivated. The candidate is familiar with
the Montessori Method of education, has experience in early
childhood, has strong communication skills, has coached and managed
teams, and possesses a strong desire to involve families in their
childrens education. Bilingual is preferred. Key Components of the
Position: Planning and managing support plans for students Using
Anti Bias Anti Racist (ABAR) lens to support equitable outcomes for
all students Coordinating with leadership, staff, and parents to
support students Providing relevant professional development Areas
of Responsibility Children Review referral data, history and work
with Student Support Team to plan supports for children. Work with
Principal to monitor, evaluate and document students progress using
appropriate assessments and measures Support Principal in
maintaining accurate records in accordance with State and District
regulations and legal requirements Work with Principal to share
progress reports about students with staff, parents, and leadership
team Anti Bias Anti Racist Work Participate in leadership work
debriefing and disrupting institutional racism and bias to build
policies and practices for ABAR institution. Analyze demographic
data to address classroom level and school wide inequities and
makes plans to ensure equitable outcomes for student Integrate ABAR
learning into SEL, both in work with children and families and
coaching for classroom staff Participate in monthly ABAR
professional learning and actively commits to self work
Families/Caregivers Maintain regular communication with parents,
email, phone, meetings, and progress reports Partner with parents
in understanding and supporting educational supports and objectives
Document communication and planning with parents and share with
leadership team Staff Systematically gather information,
observation, and data from Guides, Montessori Coach and Social
Worker Help plan SEL Team, Coach, Social Worker and Leadership to
plan for professional learning Monitor and support Guides and
Assistants in implementation of supports for children
Climate/Safety Support classroom management and school policies to
create a safe and focused learning environment Collaborate with
Principal and to support individual students and school environment
Support the implementation of SEL Skills for children and in
classrooms Community Collaborates with other agencies regarding
children/families Participate in outreach events Represent the
school at meetings, events, conferences focused on social-emotional
