GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY

Hamden Public Schools is currently recruiting for the position of Bear Path Elementary School Principal. This individual will supervise and coordinate the total elementary program, promote positive school climate and foster parent and community support.

QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Valid State of Connecticut Administrator's Certificate (092)
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a school/district administrator or teacher leader
  • Demonstrated successful experience in elementary curriculum and instruction, including programs for special education
  • Computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies, student data and their instructional management applications
  • Experience in planning and delivering professional development opportunities
  • Experience with professional learning communities and data-driven decision making
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers the instructional program in accordance with requirements and standards set by the school board and the State
  • Directs the development of the school's vision in concert with the district vision, philosophy and educational programs
  • Assumes responsibility for the quality of the school's program including instruction, student performance and use of technology
  • Monitors the evaluation of student performance and utilizes related data to assess the effectiveness of the instructional program
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, assignment and reassignment of building staff
  • Provides leadership in fostering excellent interpersonal relations among staff and students
  • Provides for the safety, health and welfare of all students and staff assigned to the school
  • Establishes appropriate staff committees to facilitate the implementation of various staff professional and social activities
  • Supervises, evaluates and recommends the retention or dismissal of classroom teachers K-6, secretarial and custodial staff
  • Provides guidance and supporting services to staff members that lead to improved job performance
  • Maintains records for each staff member for use in reports, evaluations and recommendations
  • Has knowledge of State statutes and polices regulating and affecting elementary schools and interprets these to staff
  • Provides leadership in creating a climate conducive to learning
  • Establishes and successfully implements high standards for student behavior and maintains a consistent school-wide behavioral program
  • Provides opportunities to participate in a program of educational, intramural and cultural activities.
  • Participates in the recommendation, evaluation and assignment of students to special programs of education
  • Maintains a system and procedure concerning pupil records
  • Establishes and maintains means of communication and dissemination of information with students and staff
  • Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security of and accountability for that property.Oversees the condition of the facility, ground and equipment and requests correction of hazardous or inadequate conditions
  • Implements employee agreements, administrative procedures, directives and Board policies
  • Develops, coordinates and implements the budget in conjunction with other administrators
  • Maintains records and controls in the requisitioning of approved budgetary items and accounts for all funds collected with the school in accordance with recommended procedures
  • Participates in the planning of new facilities and the remodeling of existing facilities
  • Completes and submits reports required for the Connecticut Department of Education
  • Responds to administration's written and oral requests for information and required reports and documents in a timely manner
  • Works with individuals and groups in the community to inform and seek input regarding school policies and procedures
  • Develops and promotes positive relationships and activities between parents and teachers on behalf of their children.
  • Assumes responsibilities assigned by the superintendent or designee
  • Articulates the plans and activities of the school to the administration and Board of Education
  • Serves as a liaison between the school and the parents and the community, implementing activates and policies that encourage participation in school life
